Stefani Joanna Germanotta

Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta is an American singer, songwriter, actress and record producer. She debuted with the album The Fame in 2008 and is today one of the best-selling musicians of all time. Alongside her music cereer she is also a philanthropist and an outspoken LGBTQ activist.

Lady Gaga attributes much of her early success as a mainstream artist to her gay fans, and said that her turning point was the gay community after having difficulties getting radio airplay.

LGBTQ advocacy

Lady Gaga spoke at the 2009 National Equality March in Washington, D.C. in support of the LGBT movement. She also attended the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards accompanied by four gay and lesbian former members of the United States Armed Forces who had been unable to serve openly under the U.S. military's "Don't ask, don't tell" (DADT) policy.

The Born This Way Foundation

Lady Gaga also contributes to various charities alongside her music career and in 2012 she launched the Born This Way Foundation, a non-profit organisation focusing on youth empowerment and issues like self-confidence, well-being, anti-bullying, mentoring, and career development.
